I am going to mount new shutters on my colonial style home with hardware that allows them to actually open and close. Previous shutters were cheap and nailed directly to the brick facade. The new shutters will use pintels with two mounting holes vertical, and need to be fairly close to the edge of the brick where the window is located.
I have a hammer drill and will buy a quality bit- my question concerns any experience with how close I can come to the edge of the brick without blowing out the corner? One hole will go through the mortar- but the pintle mounting places the second hole in the middle of the bricks above. The brick is on an older home- about 40 years.
