In this video, This Old House plumbing and heating contractor Richard Trethewey explains how to unclog a toilet.
Steps:
1. Press the plunger down into the toilet until it’s fully compressed.
2. Quickly pull up on the plunger handle to suck the blockage free; repeat, if necessary.
3. For stubborn clogs, insert the end of a closet auger into the toilet bowl.
4. Crank the handle on the closet auger to force the flexible cable through clog.
