Newton GenNEXT | Duct Dynasty
On this episode of This Old House
It is now halfway through the renovation at the Newton project. Kevin arrives and meets Roger outside for a quick landscape recap and then Richard inside for a plumbing recap.
At the new addition roof, Tommy shows the apprentices how to apply the self-sealing membrane and flashing to prevent water from running against the side of the house. Then they apply a starter course of architectural shingles.
Earlier in the season, mold was found in the basement due to a lack of a moisture barrier under the original floor. Today Kevin finds Mark McCullough and his crew applying a thick plastic vapor barrier before they pour a new concrete slab. Mark’s apprentice, Krysten Poulin, is there to assist. Kevin asks her how she got into masonry.
In Rhode Island, contractor Jeff Sweenor builds a Chippendale railing system for the Idea House. Kevin watches the process in Jeff’s shop and then follows him to the house to see it installed.
Back in Newton, Richard and the HVAC contractor show Kevin how to properly connect, seal, and insulate metal ductwork.
