Checking up on Key West: Insider Sneak Peek
TOH plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey visits the current owner of Season 20's Key West House
This past fall, TOH plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey took a trip south (actually, it's as far south as you can go in the lower 48!) to Key West, site of a project from Season 20. Current TOH TV host Kevin O'Connor, who remembers watching those episodes as a fan, came along, too. Though the Key West House's owners sold the property about three years after it was on This Old House, its current owner was excited to welcome Richard and Kevin and show them around.
Many of the features that were part of that 1999 renovation are still in place, from the checkered flooring in the entry to the termite-damaged newel post at the bottom of the stairs. The guys also got to see a room that the show started to work on, but that wasn't shown finished on TV—a library featuring beautiful cherry wood cabinetry by master carpenter Norm Abram. One big change the new owners have made to the house? The kitchen, which in the TOH renovation got a sleek and modern Italian look, has a new aesthetic. So what's it like now? You'll have to watch the next episode of This Old House to see!
