Game Room Getaway

Welcome to the most entertaining room in the TOH Beach House. Designer Denise Enright outfitted this space as a game room and hangout for 20-somethings, complete with a bar, comfy seating, and plenty of gadgets to play with, with its own controlled thermostat and killer sound system. So come on in and have some fun!

Escape with its Own Entrance

Tucked under the gambrel roof over the garage, the game room is set off from the rest of the house and accessed from the mudroom by its own stairway. A gallery of playful, beachy photos set against a purplish/black accent wall and industrial-style caged chandelier at the top of the stair set the stage for what’s to come.

Light-Filled Loft

Inside, the gambrel-roof framing allows for lofty ceilings, angled walls, and chunky collar beams that add drama to this bonus room. A mix of mid-century modern and industrial chic styling—achieved with both new furnishings from hayneedle.com and salvaged vintage pieces—give this space a masculine, millennial vibe. A classic houndstooth rug in a contemporary oversize pattern grounds a sleek charcoal sofa and is accentuated by pops of color.

Industrial Chic

Contrasting textures give this game room its industrial edge. A curvy 1950s-style chair with vibrant chartreuse padding is set against a rustic, white-washed reclaimed wood accent wall and lit by a metal mesh lamp that sits atop a vintage wine barrel. Note to future homeowners: Don’t let anyone sit in that chair if you plan to engage in a lively game of darts!

Home Pub

Swivel stools in hammered metal and wood with leather seats pull up to a sleek, black freestanding bar with deep shelves and space for an under-counter fridge. We’ve tricked this one out with commercial-grade features like a glass-fronted beverage cooler that holds as many as 80 cans, and a tabletop beer dispenser that keeps mini kegs cold.

Uncorking Made Easy

A modern twist on a classic design, this nickel-plated corkscrew with polished wooden handle is mounted just behind the bar for the connoisseur who appreciates effortless uncorking.

DIY Checkerboard Table

This end table—a thrift shop find—was given new life with a checkerboard-stenciled top and hardware. Knobby starfish and royal cloak scallop shells substitute for playing pieces and make this game table as attractive (and beachy) as it is practical.

Game On!

In contrast to the old-school darts and checkerboard table, the latest video games are tucked away inside a mod TV stand that sits across from a tightly-tufted sofa designed to stand up to even the most enthusiastic players. A sleek soundbar amplifies sound and allows music to be played directly from a phone using Bluetooth or by connecting to the home’s Wi-Fi network.

Accents

Woven wood shades and a large-scale canvas triptych of surfboards against another reclaimed wood wall draw the eye across the room where this 3-in-1 poker/bumper pool/dining table set was a Craig’s List bargain. We spiffed it up with a coat of black paint on the base and chairs, and accented it with an easy-care plant atop a teak bench.
