What You Missed: Live Q&A
The jolly team of Kevin O’Connor and Tom Silva talked tools and answered questions for a one-hour Live Q&A session on Nov. 20. Partway through the session, they were joined by painting contractor Mauro Henrique. Among the many issues that Insider members raised: reducing humidity in an attic after insulating (Tom suggested an attic fan: “The more you insulate, the more you need to ventilate”); adjusting a front door threshold; using nails versus screws when building (Tom is a nail guy for the most part, but it depends on the job); painting old, lacquer-finished kitchen cabinets (Mauro says use bonding primer first, sand lightly, then paint); cleaning old, never-painted drywall before painting (vacuum, sand, don’t forget the primer); advice about new, low-VOC products to strip paint (what Mauro did at the Arlington project last year, Season 38, is an example); painting after stripping wallpaper (Mauro says use a vinegar-water mix to scrape off any paste); and much more. Check back later this month for the next live event date in early 2018.
