Behind the Scenes: Newton Stained-Glass Window
At the Newton project, homeowner Liz Delfino is putting heart and soul into the renovation: Wanting to add a particularly personal touch to the house she grew up in, Liz is making a stained-glass window for the mudroom. The inspiration for her design came from nature, and her color cues came from the red leaves of the Japanese maple in the yard. After the design phase, Liz turned to Boston-area glass artist Michel L’Huillier to craft the window. During a visit to L’Huillier’s studio in West Roxbury, MA, Liz selected the glass for her pattern, cut and ground each piece to her design template, soldered each piece, and did a final washing, drying, and waxing of the stained-glass panel. Once installed, the window will be a wonderful example of creative expression, not to mention a sentimental ode to Liz’s long history with the house.
