Put a recycled bottle to work for you

Here's an easy way to make a holster that will come in handy during your next painting project: Use a utility knife or hacksaw to cut off the top half of an empty, clean plastic bottle like one that holds laundry detergent or vegetable oil. Then make two vertical slits spaced 2 inches apart in the bottom half of the bottle.

Thread your belt through the slits and position the holster near your hip. You'll now be able to keep both hands free for painting and holding onto the ladder while keeping the gear you need (paintbrushes, putty knife, clean rags, masking tape) within reach.
