It's not too late to get your veg garden on! You can make a basic cold frame from a pair of old windows and some home-center lumber to protect cool-season edibles from frost.

Cut 2x6 cedar boards to match the dimensions of the windows, and screw them together to create the frame. Hinge the windows to the box. Fill with organic garden soil, sow seeds or plant seedlings, and water as needed. When the weather's fine, prop the windows open to encourage healthy air circulation and prevent condensation, which can cause plants to mildew. Close the windows at night to insulate your crops.
