TOH Talks Skilled Trades at the 2018 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show
In January 2018 at The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show in Orlando, we co-hosted an afternoon event to encourage interest in the skilled trades. Along with the National Kitchen and Bath Association, an inaugural sponsor of Generation NEXT, the TOH cast and crew held “Beers for Trade Careers” in hopes of catalyzing conversations around the availability of careers in the trades.
Having mentors in the trades is an important part of getting started and gaining interest. Simply knowing that there’s a viable option to the traditional 4-year college route is important, and as Norm Abram notes in an interview with The Editor at Large, could lead to filling the some 4 to 5 million jobs available in the trades now.

“We started last year with Generation Next, and we’re hoping that young people are watching the show, and they see the skill level that you need to be a good craftsman these days with the all the technology that’s changing,” Norm says. “Craftsmanship could very well become a white-collar occupation to have.”
