Unless you’re interested in making your backyard a blacktop, you probably won’t run into too much overlap with This Old House and the NBA. But then you’d be forgetting the legendary Foot Locker commercial that put TOH master carpenter Norm Abram and now-retired NBA star Allan Houston on the same screen.
In the spirit of the 2002 fictional sports comedy, Like Mike , Norm shows off the best pair of shoes for playing pro ball. Allan talks a big game in the commercial: “Hey, you’re like a broken hammer. You got no handle.” Ba dum chhhh.
In the commercial, Norm also teaches Allan (known for his three-point shots) how to install a "fire prevention system" near the net; ya know, because Allan’s skills were so hot they were on fire.
In other news, Foot Locker’s House of Hoops celebrated 10 years on Valentine’s Day this year, and celebrated with the launch of an Instagram channel that blends basketball and dance culture with several NBA players from various teams. Allan, a retired player since 2005, played briefly with the Detroit Pistons before a decade-long playing career with the New York Knicks. Now, he’s back with the latter team as the assistant general manager. No stranger to amazing homes, Allan's 19,387-square-foot home was re-listed in April 2017. The French country-style house has 26 rooms and includes, of course, a basketball court.
