How to Prevent Frozen Locks
Moisture gets into exterior locks year-round, but you’re more likely to notice it in winter—when it freezes, and you’re stuck outside
Before the mercury drops, give your lock a quick squirt of lubricant. Ingredients like ethanol or isopropyl alcohol thwart freezing, and lubing up your lock’s interior makes it harder for moisture to accumulate in the first place. Look for silicone-based products like DuPont Easy Entry Lock Lubricant with Teflon ($4.99 for 30 ml; Amazon); they’re cleaner than graphite.
