Compact fluorescents save big money and look good doing it
It's time to flip the switch on those flickering, buzzing fluorescents you're used to. Today's best bulbs—known as compact fluorescents, or CFLs—squeeze the same energy-efficiency and long life into smaller, shapelier packages. These modern brights look better than their old-school predecessors with coatings that create warmer, whiter hues. They also burn cooler than incandescents, using 75 percent less energy than a traditional bulb, which translates to as much as 60 bucks in savings over the life of each light.
