Behind the Scenes: Boys and Their Toys
Kevin O’Connor explains how he got that bird’s-eye view of the house
This Old House host Kevin O’Connor has for years been not only the on-camera guide for the show’s action, but also the unofficial TOH paparazzo, capturing behind-the-scenes moments.
Now, he has upped the game—and indulged his appetite for gadgets—with a video camera drone. He especially likes deploying the drone during the early stages of a project—for example, when the roof rafters are still exposed. “That roof doesn’t stay open for more than a few hours typically, so I love getting the drone shots for that perspective,” says Kevin, who recently did just that at the Jamestown, RI, project.
Also making him happy is the drone’s portability: The wings fold into a phone-sized piece easy to slip into his pocket or tool belt.
