Asphalt Shingle Recycling
One company offers an asphalt shingle recycling program for its preferred contractors
Owens Corning, the pink-insulation company that also makes lots of roofing products, has started an asphalt-shingle recycling program for its preferred contractors. (Preferred contractors agree to use O/C products in exchange for marketing, advertising and training assistance.)
The company has partnered with Heritage Environmental Services to start this first-of-its-kind program, which enables contractors to drop off roofing debris from tear offs. The recycled asphalt is processed and used for paving products. Last year the Asphalt Institute (is there an institute for everything?) estimated that the asphalt from recycled shingles has a potential value of more than $1 billion (which varies, based on the market price of asphalt).
