In conjunction with The This Old House TV Veteran’s Special House Project, Staff Sgt. Joseph Beimfohr discusses living in the new accessible house provided by Homes for Our Troops (HFOT). Joe served as a cavalry scout in the U.S. Army. In 2005, he suffered a traumatic amputation of both legs in an IED explosion. Since returning home, Joe has participated in more than 30 marathons and is an avid handcyclist. In 2016, he is planning to compete in his first full IRONMAN.
HFOT is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building specially adapted, mortgage-free houses for severely injured veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The 35th-anniversary season of TOH TV concludes with the crew partnering with HFOT to help build and outfit a house in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, for a wounded Iraq War veteran.
