Hammer a nail into the side of a clean aluminum can at 2-inch intervals. Place a piece of scrap wood inside first, where you're making a hole, to prevent the can from collapsing.

Expand the pilot holes with a drill to get the container ready for the planting material, a mix of bark and peat moss sold commercially as Orchid Bark.

Place an orchid in the vessel, about half filled with the mix. Top with more bark, making sure all leaves are above the top of the can to avoid rot. Place where the plant will get medium to bright light.
