DIY Extension Cord
Scott Caron, master electrician for TOH and owner of Caron Electric, explains how to make your own extension cord
The power cord on my new 220-volt table saw is too short. Can I rig up an extension cord?

I’d recommend making your own extension cord from a length of 12-gauge SJ-type portable cable, like the one shown. These flexible, severe-wear-rated cables can easily handle the load of a big table-saw motor, and their thick rubber jackets shrug off abrasion. High-leverage cable cutters (shown) are specially designed for trimming round cables like this, but side-cutting pliers will also do the job.
