How Much Does Farmers Pet Insurance Cost?
A Pets Best insurance plan through Farmers is priced competitively. Whereas most top providers price their plans at $20–$60 per month, you can get a Pets Best plan for less than $20 depending on your location and your pet’s species and breed.
The provider offers multiple options for deductibles, annual coverage limits, and reimbursement rates to control how much you pay.
- Deductibles: $50, $100, $200, $250, $500, $1,000
- Annual coverage limits: $5,000, unlimited
- Reimbursement rates: 70%, 80%, 90%
Though you have a limited choice between annual limits, one of the two options is unlimited coverage, which offers a lot of value considering Pets Best’s low price. The company’s reimbursement rates are standard for the industry, but the number and dollar amount of deductible options is impressive.

What Plans and Coverage Does Farmers Pet Insurance Offer?
Farmers offers a comprehensive accident-and-illness plan through Pets Best: the BestBenefit plan. You can use this plan to cover vet treatments for common accidents and illnesses pets face, such as vet exams, surgeries, hospitalization, emergency care, lab testing, prescription medications, and more.
The Pets Best BestBenefit plan provides three coverage and pricing options you can choose from depending on your pet’s needs:
- Essential: The Essential tier includes basic coverage for accidents, illnesses, cancer, hereditary conditions, emergency care, surgeries, and prescribed medication.
- Plus: The Plus plan includes everything in the Essential plan, plus exam fees associated with diagnosing your pet for an eligible disease or injury.
- Elite: The Elite plan covers everything in the Essential and Plus plans, plus rehabilitation, acupuncture, and chiropractic care. This option is the most comprehensive. It’s typically only a couple of dollars more per month than the Plus option.
Pets Best also provides an accident-only plan. You can choose this option for a lower monthly premium, but your pet will only be covered for accident-related issues, not illnesses.
Preventive Care
You can also take advantage of Pets Best’s preventive plans through Farmers. Customers can add a preventive plan to their standard accident-and-illness plan for an additional monthly fee to cover routine wellness care such as annual checkups, vaccinations, spaying and neutering, parasite prevention, and more.
The EssentialWellness plan covers the following care for $16 per month:
The BestWellness plan covers the same but at a higher amount per treatment for $26 per month.
What Are Farmers Pet Insurance Coverage Exclusions?
No pet insurance provider covers everything. Like many providers, Pets Best doesn’t cover preexisting conditions, though it makes exceptions for curable conditions such as a broken bone or kennel cough since these can heal and require no further treatment.

How Do Customers View Farmers Pet Insurance?
Since the pet insurance plan you get through Farmers is actually through Pets Best, we analyzed customer reviews for the latter. Pets Best has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and many positive reviews.* Most negative reviews are about denied claims. This may be due to customers misunderstanding policy terms, as Pets Best’s sample policy details exactly what it does and doesn’t cover.
“As a dog breeder for 15 years, I have always supplied a health guarantee with my puppies along with encouraging buyers to get health insurance on their dogs. Now retired from breeding, I have taken out a policy on my keeper pup. Pets Best’s easy online way for me to upload vet notes and claims make the process seamless and I am very impressed with how easy it is to correspond with an agent via telephone to answer questions and concerns. Highly recommend this company.”
Cynthia R.
“They will find one million excuses to deny your claim. Not a reliable insurance.”
Ray R.
“Wonderful company! I have had 2 claims paid back quickly. Glad I purchased it when my dog was a puppy.”
Amber B.
“I have had this insurance for my dog for 3 years and they ALWAYS find a reason not to pay. For instance, my dog got a hot spot and they denied the claim because she had one previous to when I got her.”
Lynn S.
