Season 42 of This Old House continues with the restoration of a fire-damaged 1905 three-family home in Dorchester, MA. Episodes air starting April 1 on PBS. Check your local listings.

The final house of Season 42 moves Tommy, Kevin, Richard, Jenn, and the team to Dorchester, MA where a 1905 three-family home endured a fire on the 4th of July in 2019. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the house suffered significant damage.

Homeowner Carol lived in this house for 39 years before the fire. A retired accountant, Carol raised her own children and fostered kids in-need in this home. She shared the apartments with her two sisters and 3 nephews. She wants to restore the building to its original state.

As for the home itself, the back of the house received most of the fire damage. The majority of interior walls were saturated with water. 115-year-old plaster was removed to prevent mold. All three kitchens need restoration. Water damaged the heating system in the basement. Most bathrooms are unusable. Exterior siding was melted in some places. The family has found housing nearby but is anxious to move back into their home.
