Wood trim around exposed brick?

We have a Victorian with the back of a brick fireplace/chimney in the kitchen. My husband is replacing 12 inch molding/trim. He wants to put this around exposed brick. I think it needs something, but the trim just doesn't seem esthetically right. Any suggestions?

Exposed brick can be very decorative, especially in an old Victorian like yours. Your husband has the right idea with molding. There is a variety of it out there so just look around and you'll come up with the right combination to finish it off.

This is one example of brick and trim being integrated. The homeowner also figured out a nice way to cover the stovepipe thimble.

Thanks... did the trim carpentry for that bathroom this summer. The custom wrap around drawer I created in the vanity is featured in a short article on newsstands now. Here is a link to the online version:
