Windows as Sound Insulation

How much does your average window reduce decibels? I have a single double-pane window in each of my window boxes, and was wondering if I could add a second window in each. I think there is room (2x4 exterior walls), but would that work? Would the result be worth it?

To add to DB's information ... some window manufacturers will use different thickness of glass that also helps reduce noise.
The different thickness will attenuate different frequencies and also reduces weight and costs.
