This is more a style/redesign question than a how to question. We are in the process of having our windows replaced in our home. First off, we have 10 - 46" square windows in our home. We originally placed an order for double hung windows for all of them. However, we were told today, after placing this order about 4 weeks ago, that we can not have this size window in our bedrooms, which are all on the second floor of our home and that we have to have sliders because of code. If we don't replace those with sliders, because of code, we'd have to have a larger window, which would require a larger opening being created for each of the three bedrooms. The sliders can be grandfathered in because that's what's in there now. So, we can't have a style change without breaking building codes. We'd still love to have the double hung windows installed on our main floor, but seeing we are required to keep the style we have upstairs as the sliders, we'll just have to do what we have to do. My question is this: Style vs. style, how common is it for people to have two different styles of windows in their homes? Meaning double hungs on one floor and sliders on the other floor(s). I seriously do NOT want sliders throughout my entire home, but will agree that safety first when it comes to the bedrooms. I don't think it would look bad or strange, but that's just my opinion. Ideas? Opinions? Thank you!!
