Why no blooms on my English Roseum Rhodedendron

Last year I purchased a rhodedendron. It lived, woohoo... grew nice and big and green but with no blooms?? The next door neighor also has one planted in the same corner of his house. The house faces north so partial sun morning from the east and evening from the west. I live in Michigan and I'm pretty sure it does well here. Why did the neighbor get blooms and I didn't :(

Fertilizers that are high in N, nitrogen, will promote green leafy growth. Excess nitrogen in the soil can cause excessive vegetative growth on plants at the expense of flower bud development. It is best to avoid fertilizing late in the growing season. Applications made at that time can force lush, vegetative growth that will not have a chance to harden off before the onset of cold weather. Also...if you just planted it, give it some time.

also don't prune late in the summer or fall, you'll cut off the buds set earlier.
