What type of roof is this and what type of truss is used to get the roof to finish at a higher point than the garage?

We plan to build a new house. I love the traditional styling of this house because it has a beautiful porch. The problem is that my favorite part is where the porch roof finishes higher than the garage sides to open up that beautiful porch. My husband thinks the walls are lower in the garage... (I know I could just purchase the plans but I feel like we wouldn't be able to build it if we find out it has really expensive specialty trusses.) The reason I'm asking the This Old House forum is because I have searched all over the internet to find out how they chopped this porch! The closest thing I have come to is that the garage is a traditional gable roof and the main house is a saltbox roof? Please help!
