Can anyone help me determine what kind of wood was used for our flooring? The house was built in SC in 1962 if that helps?
It could be oak, its hard to tell from the picture.
It could also be hickory.
Not sure I would agree on ash or hickory. Looking at the picture I would agree more with the oak response. There is a good amount of color difference in the pieces, so can see why hickory was suggested, but still think Jack has missed the mark :)
Why are you asking the question? I assume you're trying to match the floor?
Yeah, I don't think it's hickory.
We're in the process of designing a second story for the house. We're on a mission to turn our brick ranch into a neoclassical. Just trying to figure out what the wood is to match it on the stairs and second floor, and to replace in a 1st floor bathroom we're taking out and pulling the tile from. :)
Hard to tell from the photo but it doesn't look like oak ---- maybe ash --- could be hickory ---- possibly heart pine.
try this link to see if anything matches ................
Here are some more pictures... Hopefully they are better?
The one picture definitely looks like Southern Yellow Pine it me.
Check with your local historical society. They'll probably be happy to tell you. You might even consider doing some research on your house at the records bureau via your local library or whoever has the historical info re: old houses in your area. You'll find out when house was built, by whom, as well as what kind of wood was used on floors. ;)
I'd agree. That second photo doesn't look like oak.
Looks to be more like fir --- heartwood or southern yellow pine.
