What floor to use on a kitchen remodel if you have Douglas Fir through out the house
scuculiza

I am in a dilemma, I cannot seem to find Douglas Fir to redo the kitchen floor. I am installing Cherry Honey Spice cabinets and do not (rather not) change the floor to tile. What wood flooring can I use so that it will be the best match to the Fir.
All the woods I been show look great in original color but they show them to me way darker after a year or so.

Please help me!!

Fir used to be common and popular here, but now it's no longer stocked at most lumberyards so you have to special-order it. It is available though.

In the old days, the qualities of a wood species were given equal consideration to their finished appearance. Nowadays the only consideration seems to be appearance alone and I see a lot of wood species which do not fare well in the applications they are used in because few of today's carpenters were taught of the old ways. Fir is an excellent wood for many things bit it's higher cost compared to cheaper species are why it's not so universally used here anymore.
