Hello all, I need help picking decking material. After doing some research I'm leaning towards AZEK .Is this a good move? I'm looking for durability & low maintenence. Thanks
AZEK could work fine.. :)
What about CorrectDeck CX? Doesn't have Azek's issues with chalking and bug spray, and has HFS.
I prefer Trex Deck.
I researched a lot of choices before we put our deck in and we chose ipa. The wood is wonderful, it stays smooth and doesn't splinter. The cost though expensive, wasn't that much more than the composite. Good luck
My DH wanted wood and not plastic.
We researched available hardwoods. Originally we were leaning toward cedar.
We chose ipe.
IPE (EEE pay) is a farmed tropical hardwood also known as iron wood.
It is HEAVY.
It sinks in water.
It requires fairly good wood working skills.
Screws and nails will have to be predrilled.
It is naturally resistant to weather.
It is a dark red wood, similar to cherry when finished.
We have sealed and finished our deck with a marine sealer and finish.
We expect to finish to last several years (at least 5) with regular wear and tear.
It is shiny, which may not be appealing to some.
It is also impervious to the weather.
If left natural - I believe it will eventually turn to a grey color.
If you want wood, there will be some maintenance issues.
Plastic may not have maintenance issues, but if you get it with a "natural wood grain" you will probably want to power wash you deck at least once a season.
Maintenance also becomes more difficult the larger your deck is.
hope that helps
