Special Holiday Offer2 Gifts for $16It’s Like Getting One Free!
Just bought a home built in 1926. The upstairs bath has (what we believe to be)all original wall tile and a very unique little nook that we can't figure out. (see pics)
Is this suppose to be a nightlight?
my guess and I will probally be shot out of the water on this but. I would guess that the two lines coming in are water lines for a radiant heater
It's hard to see in the pic but those are
actually two electric threads (like for a bulb).
Looks like a recess for 2 electric resistance heating cones. They were cone shaped with resistance wire, similar to those in a toaster wrapped around them. My aunt had them in her bathroom. Very dangerous, burnt many a towel.
I'll bet if DW remembers those old HJ branding irons DW remembers those cone shaped fire starters too.
Thanks for your help everyone!
I think we'll have an electrician look at it just to make sure it's still not hot.
Huh. I've never seen anything like that before. You may want to post those images on the oldhouseweb forums -- the members there are pretty quick to answer questions like these. Good luck!
