Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Unai Emery are both under some pressure heading into this match - and that's despite the Gunners sitting fourth in the table.
Emery's tactics have come under question, with Arsenal's front line - especially Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - helping the Gunners paper over the cracks in defence and midfield, though Tuesday's 7-1 Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest has lifted spirits.
As for United, their season has gone steadily downhill since that opening-day 4-0 win over Chelsea: they fell to a meek 2-0 defeat at West Ham last weekend, and needed a penalty shootout to avoid a humiliating Carabao Cup exit against Rochdale on Wednesday night.
With an injury-hit attack scoring just eight goals in six games and the Red Devils already lagging 10 points behind Liverpool heading into the weekend's action, Solskjaer needs a result to keep the club's top-four hopes on track.
What is the team news?
Arsenal will be without Alexandre Lacazette, with his return still around a month out, while Hector Bellerin is not expected to start. But Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney could feature in the starting XI after impressive performances against Nottingham Forest.Meanwhile, Manchester United could resort to fielding Mason Greenwood as their injury crisis continues.Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are both out until October, while Paul Pogba is a major doubt for the Old Trafford clash.Phil Jones will also be absent after being taken off in the Carabao Cup victory against Rochdale.
Marcus Rashford has been ruled out of tonight’s game with a groin injury, while Anthony Martial suffered a setback in his recovery from a thigh problem. The France international underwent more checks over the weekend, with Solskjaer still hoping he could include him in his squad but United will take a late decision on his involvement. Paul Pogba has also had checks on his swollen ankle, which flared up after making his injury comeback against Rochdale.Luke Shaw could be back from a hamstring strain. As for Arsenal, Alexandre Lacazette remains out of action - but Emery has several defensive options at his disposal with Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney all making their long-awaited returns from injury against Forest.
Man Utd (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Pogba; Pereira, Lingard, James; Greenwood
Arsenal (4-3-1-2): Leno, Chambers, Sokratis, David Luiz, Tierney; Xhaka, Guendouzi, Willock; Cebellos; Aubameyang, Pepe
Prediction: Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal
Neither manager can really afford to lose this one, even this early on in the season. With United lacking options up front, the match will likely be won or lost at the other end of the pitch.
If Arsenal misfire, the hosts could well sneak a win - but if the Gunners are on form, they could run riot at Old Trafford. Still, a draw is most likely in what should be a cagey affair.
