Hi, Dear all, I don't have experience of doing major remodeling work before. But I am young and have time. If you are experienced home remodeler or know some retired contractor would like to mentor a young guy how to remodel a small kitchen, Please let me know. I will pay reasonable price for your time and knowledge. I live in Greater Philadelphia area--Willow grove/Abington PA. Thanks

It may prove to be useful to head on over to the local barber shop. You know, the one with the striped pole, ESPN on the old tube TV, and the hidden girly magazines.

Go there during the weekday when the old geezers are shooting the breeze. Chances are you'll find someone more than willing to help in order to get out of the house.

There are some very good web sites such as This Old House, the John Bridge Tile forum (which includes many remodelers such as myself) Houzz and others where you can find up to date, modern methods and materials.

This is a trade that you learn by doing. Some colleges offer construction courses that you might look into. As for finding a contractor to tag along with, unless he/she is a close personal friend, most won't likely want you with them due to insurance and liability issues.

It's pretty uncommon to see someone who is seeking advice like this. Most new handymen are too cocky to ask...and whatever you tell them they say: "I know. I know".

In my state you can tell an old timer from a new contractor by their license number. So one way would be to contact early number contractors in your city and ask them the question you just asked us. Log on to your state's contractor board and check the contractors lists.
