***** Vent Water Heater

My heater fails to ignite regularly. The cycle starts with the vent *****ing up, you hear the electronic ignition click on and the pilot light, seconds after, the pilot goes out and the cycle continues until it shuts down. During this activity the cold water intact into the tank becomes hot, like hot water is backing up.

First check the screen vents along the bottom of the water heater to see if they are not plugged or blocked --- restricting air for combustion.

Otherwise, unless you know your way around and understand the operation of thermocouples and gas valves , then call a professional to troubleshoot the issue.

I think he has a tank-less heater. Most tank type don't have electronic ignition.

John -- you could be correct.
For some reason I had the impression it was a high efficient storage tank type.
