Use of Zurn Pex in bathroom plumbing

I am having my master bath redone. The tub has been removed and a ceramic stall shower will be constructed to take its place. The contractor doing the work is using Zurn Pex polyethylene tubing. I am aware of problems with this material. In fact, my sister and brother-in-law experienced a catastrophic failure of Zurn fittings under their kitchen sink, resulting in a flooded kitchen. Are these plumbing fittings safe to use? If not, what are the alternatives? I live in South Carolina and Zurn fittings are legal under the building codes. Thanks for any info.
