Cap them all to be sure. Wire nuts are cheap.:D
In reality only the black needs to be capped, but you may never know if somewhere before where you are working black & white wires we wrongly connected.
Are you dead heading then in the wall, or using a blank cover plate?

Re: Uninstall Wall Outlet Help

Is this receptacle a dedicated one or at the end of a circuit?

If it is in a middle of a circuit which also continues on to feed another receptacle .... you could cap the blacks together and the whites together in order to continue the circuit.

Just a thought.:)

Re: Uninstall Wall Outlet Help

1. Turn the power off for the outlet.
2. Make sure the outlet doesn't have power.
3. Remove the center screw and outlet cover.
4. Remove the screw at the top and bottom of the outlet.
5. pull the out let out of the box.
6. Make sure the power is off.
7. Remove and wire nut the wires togeather from one side of the outlet (usually the same color)If only one wire put wire nut on it.
8. Remove the wires from the other side of the outlet and wire nut them togeather. If only one wire put wire nut on it.
9. Remove ground wires from outlet if present and wire nut them togeatger. No wire nut required if only one wire.
10.Fold wires back into box(with wire nuts)
11.Put blank cover on oulet box.
12.Turn power bck on.

Re: Uninstall Wall Outlet Help

I would like to thank everyone for being so helpful so quickly. I am told the outlet is in the middle of the circuit... Anyway, the wires are capped, the power is working, and the house is still standing! Again, thank you all so very much.
