uneven seems in granite countertop

We just had our granite countertops installed and the seems do not match-up. They are uneven both by feel and sight. We do not have plywood under the granite. Were looking for solutions to correcting this problem.

is it uneven all the way? if it is then they would have to seperate the pieces and reset them. some may tell you that you can't seperate the pieces onces they have been epoxied together but you can it just takes special tools. there are pads that are laid upon the granite on each side of the seam and it heats up the joint and loosens the epoxy

Why isn't the installer fixing the problem?

Also, these seems should have biscuits. If not, ask why.

most granite seams do not have biscuits. very few installers use them. and really they are not needed when using a good quality seaming tool. the only other reason that you might have an uneven seam is if the granite has a cup to it which somtimes happens especially with some of the darker granites. which would be related to how the pieces were done in the shop. at our shop we fit them together at the shop to make sure that we will have a good seam as well as to make sure that we get a good match on the edge profile, also sometimes there may be a slight difference in thickness of the stone even on the same slab.

if they recommend face polishing to take care of the difference and it is a dark granite don't let them take care of it that way. on dark granites you will end up with a foggy area especially under good or natural lighting.

did the counter installers have any issues with the install, the reason i ask this is because the cabinets themself may not have been installed level. the tops of the banked cabinets may not be flush which in turn is throwing off the countertop joint

every mistake thats let go only compounds the next step of the final process

Re: uneven seems in granite countertop

The installer of the countertop should fix this issue as it is a poor seam job.

If they don't stand behind the work make yourself heard
