trimming a baseboard

i would like to know an easy way to trim the end of a baseboard without damaging the wall or removing the baseboard entirely. i am wanting to install some casing trim around an interior opening and the baseboard needs to be shortened by the width of the casing......thanks for any replies.

I would use an oscillating tool like the Dremel MultiMax (about $99 at Home Depot of Lowe's) or the Rockwell Soniccrafter (about $130) or the Fein MultiMaster (about $300)

Pull saws are great for what you want to do. I would suggest you tape a really thin pcs of cardboard, paper or plastic against the wall to run the saw down. At times I will put a pcs of masking tape on the exposed side of the wood to eliminate any ripping when pulling the saw towards you.
Take it slow when cutting with any saw...
