Tom Silva's fix for garage door opener noise - anyone tried it?
TOHFan

Hi. I watched Tom Silva's fix for garage door opener noise here: https://www.thisoldhouse.com/how-to/how-to-muffle-noisy-garage-door-opener

Anyone tried this? I would appreciate sharing your experience.

It is pretty simple. I use Spring hangers for most items that I hang from a ceiling. It is only stopping vibrations. Are you having the same issue?

Thank you for your reply. I haven't done it yet.

How long ago did you make this change?

What specific rubber did you use?

How is the rubber holding up now (e.g stretch, tears etc)?

Have you noticed any other adverse side effects because the motor is hanging by rubber instead of bolted to steel?

Anytime that you have an electric motor, and that motor is connected directly to structure, you will feel and hear the vibrations. I use Spring Hangers for most everything that uses an electric motor.

Use most anything to separate the motor from the structure. Cardboard, cloth, rubber, foam. See what works best for you particular situation. I never said I used rubber in my post. But since you cannot think for yourself, use a mud flat from a large truck. Use rubber from an old tire. Rubber bushings from the suspension of a car. Anything that will provide a cushion between the two parts.

I made an honest query in regards to anyone actually did what Tom Silva did in the linked video. I thought handyandy did it when he responded "it's pretty simple". Based on his latest response it turned out not the case. My question is still unanswered. I would like to know if anyone actually did what Tom Silva did and their actual experience with that specific solution. I am not looking for a different solution. Thank you.
