To remove or not to remove?

We have a 1912 American Foursquare home, and we are getting ready to redo the kitchen and are not sure if we should remove the walk-thru butler pantry:confused: Would it be wise to remove the butler pantry or leave it for historical reasons. If we keep I would want to make it a desk area. Thank you for any opinions.

I would recommend keeping it, but pictures would sure help.

Here are some pictures of the butler pantry. As you can see the BP needs to be updated, but still going back and forth on what to do. Behind the cabinets is another walk-in pantry that would also be taken out if we were to go that route.

This is a personal preference question, but since you asked what others would do, I would totally leave it. Those cabinets are pretty neat with all the storage. The big hinges look great. You could definitely stand to benefit from updating the colors but other than that I would keep the integrity of the room if it were my house.

I think you should not remove the butler pantry. Even if i were in same situation i would have left it as it is, because old is gold.:)

Most people would kill for that much storage. I would leave it. I would change the wall paper though.

Keep it! I have seen some amazing butler pantry remodels on the web. Plus, it preserves the architectural integrity of your home.

Re: To remove or not to remove?

Definitely keep it. Give the area a facelift. Keep the bones. Great cabinets and space!
