tiling a remodeled bath

I am getting ready to put up a tile back splash in a small bath. There is new green sheetrock just installed. Can I place the tile directly on this or do I have to use some other type of backer board made specifically for tiling? (Can you tell this is my first time to do this?!)
Thanks

Shaun

As long as its a wall or ceiling not inside the tub/shower area you can tile directly to the green board. Just use a high quality mastic with a trowel sized to the tile.
