Tiling OVER a Floor Drain

We are planning on installing ceramic tile in our kitchen. We have a cement slab floor that is currently carpeted. Under the carpet, there is a floor drain that I believe used to service the washing machine back in the day before the previous homeowners renovated and moved it to another room.

How can we appropriately plug the floor drain and tile over it?

Thanks for your insight.

Re: Tiling OVER a Floor Drain

You need to find out what kind of pipe you have, get the appropriate cap and cap it below grade.

Re: Tiling OVER a Floor Drain

Cap it, leaving a space for some medium set mortar to fill the space level with the slab.
