Tiled shower leaks

We moved into an 7 year old home last year. The two of used the master shower all of the time. About three months later we noticed a sign of water in the adjacent space to the shower. We have had numerous tests including using an infra red camera which showed water wicking up verticle studs. This has been about a three month process. In the meantime we began using another shower on the other side of the house. It is tiled as well. Today we found moisture in another adjacent space. In this case we both noticed recently that the grout lines seemed to stay wet longer. It seems strange that both pans would last only 8 years. I am wondering if this could be improper sealing of the tile/grout. Now in have noticed that when the home was built, excess grout was not removed in a number of places above head level. Any grout cracks are minimal. We have had the 1st shower checked for water line problems. There must be something in common here, but what?
