We have marble tile surrounding our fireplace and would like to replace it. We'd prefer to tile over it, but keep getting conflicting input as to whether or not this can be done. So the question is: Is it advisable to tile over marble or should the marble be completely removed?
Thanks!
To answer your question directly- yes its possible to tile over marble.
There are some considerations though;
1- IS the marble sound? no cracks or movement?
2- Is the new tile going to get hot when the fireplace is in use?
3- Can the new tile withstand this heat?
4- What happens to the edge of the tile where it stops? Bullnose? Profile?
