Thick Wood Planks Screwed into Floor

I just purchased my first home. The only downfall is that there is wood (wood the you would use to build a fence or a barn)screwed into the family room and kitchen floors. Most of the screws are stripped or painted over. Besides using a pry bar and some muscle, what would be the best way to tackle this project? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully I will have pictures to post soon.

Thanks in advanced.

Re: Thick Wood Planks Screwed into Floor

The easiest way is to cut the boards between each joist with a circular saw. Set the saw to the thickness of the board and run it right through. Then use a chisel or pry bar to split the wood around the screw. Once you get the board up, you can tap the screws sideways and they will snap off.
