Thermocouple failures

I have a hot water heating boiler which also produces domestic hot water. It goes through thermocouples every six months. It has a pilot light rather than electronic ignition. My local heating contractor is stumped. every time I call them they check the boiler and find no issues other than the thermocouple. The gas valve was replaced in early 2011 by the contractor

You could have a faulty gas valve.

If a thermocouple is failing that often I would tend to believe you have a gas combustion problem. Carbon is building up on that thermocouple. Or the thermocouple is not in the correct position relative to the pilot, if too close it will prematurely burn out. Next time it fails simply clean it with some Emory cloth and relight.
