Textured ceiling repair

Hello all,

I have textured ceilings, and I don't know how it's created. So I attached a picture. The left side of the picture is the original texture. I wanted to match the texture of the repair area(the right side of the picture) to the original texture. I tried to use DAP DryDex and Fast'N Final, but they look compeletly different. DAP product gave me a very chalky finish. Do you guys have any idea how it's done?

It looks like... when the original texture was applied, it was very thin paste.

 Thank you!!!

Re: Textured ceiling repair

I don't know what the existing material is but to match that you would trowel on a light skim coat ( say joint compound ) than thin the joint compound down splater it on using a brush don't over due the splater than using a trowel lightly trowel over the splaters to somewhat smooth out. Do test sample planels till you get it close.

Re: Textured ceiling repair
