Support Wall

I have a 2 story house. If the second floor does not have the walls continued up from first floor, this is not a support wall? Doesn't it have to continue up all the way to the attic, after the second floor floor is down.I have a cable roof also, so it is difficult for me to check the attic for support wall. Thanks

Re: Support Wall

You're going the wrong direction. Start by looking under the wall to see if it is supported or just setting on the floor, that is a much better indication that it is or is not a support wall. Then check at the top of the wall to see if the second floor joists run across this wall or are two piece ending on the top of the wall. And no a support wall does not have to continue up through the second floor.

Re: Support Wall

Jack has described it pretty well.
It is fairly common for the second floor to be supported by a bearing wall below, but have roof trusses clear span fron the front to back.
What is a cable roof?
