Supply size.

Im getting ready to replace my steel supply pipes in my basement with pex, but the main coming out of my basement floor is 3/4, it goes up to the ceiling of the basement and then steps down to 1/2. I would like to run 3/4 and tap off of it in 1/2 to the bath and the kitchen but run 3/4 to my water heater and 3/4 out and step down to 1/2 also. is this going to do anything to my water pressure. please keep in mind my water heater is almost 20 feet from my water inlet and my inlet is about 20 feet from the street main. I am going to be installing a water softner.

Thanks for any help

Re: Supply size.

If anything I would think your deign would help you to maintain a more steady water pressure.

I would like to keep it a trunk and branch system. which would be better?

Re: Supply size.

There are alot of people who will debate one is better over the other. I personally have done several of both type of systems. Mostly trunk and branch systems. When I run a trunk and branch system I will run more 3/4 pex because the fittings are internal and can restrict flow. Hope this helps

Thank you and you have been very helpful, Im lucky because all my plumbing is in the basement and I only have to run about 100 total feet of pex.

This is an interesting topic. I ran 3/4 PEX from my tank but only for a very short distance and then stepped it down to 1/2. I have plenty of pressure, but, it does make me wonder which would have been better.
