sulfa odors

My husband and I bought a farm house built in the late 1800's and remodeled it. But when we turn on the water in the upstairs bathroom you can smell a rotten egg odor. How do we rid the house of this odor?

Re: sulfa odors

I assume you're on a well. We had a similar problem when we added a new bathroom in our basement. The cold water had a rotten egg odor when it was first turned on, then dissipated after the water ran awhile. It was the only faucet affected. Cleaned the drain, including the overflow and the aerator several times but it always came back. Turned out it was the faucet supply hose. Apparently there is a harmless bacteria in the well water that can live in the braided hose. We replaced it with a smooth hose and the odor went away.
