I'm using my attic as a bedroom and I have 2 dormers that make up the bulk of my living space. I'm getting a new roof this summer and I'd like to take the opportunity to strip away some old insulation. The previous owner had many leaks that went unnoticed because the cellulose was absorbing the water penetrating through the roof, leaving lots of wood rot. I'd like to remove all of this insulation but I first have to remove some paneling. Naturally, I only want to remove cosmetic items, nothing structural for the roof.
Question: In the crawl space below the rafters, is this framing structural?
Here are some pictures to put the crawl space into perspective.
This is the other part of the attic where I removed all of the insulation below the roof. Notice the wood rotting.
Is that framing structural or cosmetic as well?
