Step down, then step up copper pipe siz

The water feed pipe coming into my house is 1" and my hot water tank connection is 1". One inch pipe continues through my house as a main trunk line. I am installing a water softener and the water connections are 3/4". Is it ok to step down the pipe size to 3/4" to match the In side of the water softener and then step the pipe size back up to 1" on the Out side of the water softener? Will I loose water pressure or GPM?

Depending on the water softener you will lose 10-15 pounds through it at its rated flow. (generally less than 4gpm) Reducing to 3/4 inch and then increasing to 1 inch at the water softener should not have a noticeable impact on your water pressure.
I did this same thing when I installed my water softener and I didn't even notice the pressure drop through the water softener.
